Emergency Works – Southern Water

May 14, 2025

Please see the press release below from WSCC:

Good afternoon,

As you will be aware, Southern Water is currently managing a pollution issue near Willow Way, Hurstpierpoint.

To facilitate emergency works in response to this issue, Southern Water has closed Western Road to allow their contractor access to replace the pipe liners at this location, ahead of repairing the pipe connection.

Due to the risk of flooding this connection needs to be repaired within a specific timeframe – the team is working to a tight schedule. Unfortunately, this has necessitated daytime working and a temporary road closure. Following discussions with the contractor today, they have confirmed that they will delay the start of their works and associated traffic management on Thursday, 15th May 2025 until 10:00am, to help minimise disruption during the morning rush hour.

Every effort will be made to complete the works before the end of the school day. However, given the extensive nature of these Priority 1 works, this may not be possible. That said, the contractor will aim to reopen the road sufficiently to allow vehicles to pass through safely, with their team on-site to manage and steward traffic as required.

I would be grateful if you could please share this update with your residents/parents, so they are informed of this latest development. Should I receive any further updates, I will pass them on as soon as possible. Please note that I do not currently have any additional information regarding the wider pollution issue.

Kind regards,
