(1) Corner House Manor Gardens Hurstpierpoint Hassocks West Sussex BN6 9UG. DM/21/4261. Single storey side and rear extensions. Alteration of existing parking area to front garden. Amended plans received 10.02.2022 showing lowered flat roof to the rear extension.
RECOMMENDATION: No further comment
(2) 106 High Street Hurstpierpoint Hassocks West Sussex BN6 9PX. DM/22/0296. Enlarge the rear existing dormer and installation of a smoke vent window to the rear roof.
RECOMMENDATION: Our recommendation is that MSDC give permission
(3) The Stables Pookbourne Lane Sayers Common Hassocks West Sussex BN6 9HD. DM/22/0360. Proposed creation of porch to principle elevation.
RECOMMENDATION: Whilst the PC reluctantly supported the large extension to the holiday let that was recently approved in planning application DM/21/0801 we are disappointed to see yet another request to enlarge this building further. The PC feels strongly that this is over development, and we see no reason for a holiday let to need a further extension of a large porch.
(4) Bright World Education Ltd Forge House 105 High Street Hurstpierpoint Hassocks West Sussex BN6 9PU. DM/21/4129. Proposed installation of 2 heat pump inverter outside units on the rear wall of office building.
RECOMMENDATION: Our recommendation is that MSDC refuse the application. The heat pumps will over overhang onto the neighbours’ property and windows.
(5) 33 Iden Hurst Hurstpierpoint Hassocks West Sussex BN6 9XZ. DM/22/0574. To relocate border fence, approx. 5.5ft closer to boundary, to enclose some of the additional land included within the boundary of the property. Also keep a hedge border in keeping with the current layout and similar to surrounding properties.
RECOMMENDATION: Our recommendation is that MSDC refuse the application. We reiterate our previous comments. It will be detrimental to the ‘open plan’ feel of the estate and alter the street scene

P&E21/22.091 Street Naming – The committee was asked to consider a street naming request from MSDC – Torch Holiday & Retreat Centre, 4 Hassocks Road, Hurstpierpoint. The development consists of converting the original building into 10 new dwellings and the District Council has confirmed that a new street would be required to identify the development at this secluded location. The developers, Martin Homes, have suggested the name Beacon Drive for this new street as they feel it is in keeping with the name “Torch”.
RESOLVED: The committee agreed in principle to follow the previous policy of using names of past Hurstpierpoint residents and agreed to put forward the suggestion of ‘Percy Saunders Drive’. This is subject to Cllr David Evans and the Assistant Clerk obtaining further information from the family of Percy Saunders.
There being no other business the meeting closed at 8.28pm.
